Goddess of the Truck Drivers Essays

Goddess of the Truck Drivers Essays Goddess of the Truck Drivers Essay Goddess of the Truck Drivers Essay A hero is a person who has heroic qualities or performs heroic acts and is regarded as a role model. A hero is a person who inspires us, and one person that really inspires me is my mother. She works really hard. Mom is a person who likes to smile all the time. Wherever clients enter to the restaurant, they see her shiny smile giving good vibes around. She has light brown curly hair, brown eyes, she is short and super energetic. Presently, she is living in a small town called ‘Curauma’ in the city of Valparaiso, Chile. My mother inspires me in the way that she can fall several times, but she knows how to stand up fast and perfectly. In the past, she did not have various opportunities, how ever, she made her dreams come true, such as becoming a chef, and owning a restaurant. She taught me that I have to be brave, smile, and be friendly to people, but most importantly, she taught me how to be respectful and always be humble no matter what. I amgrate ful that I resemble her personality, moreover proud to say that my mother is my hero. Carmen Lucero, my mother, is the owner of the restaurant ‘House Lunch’ in Chile . My mom works and lives there. Every morning, she wakes up at 7 oclock to start to serve the truck drivers who are going to have lunch early because they have to load up their trucks cities far away from Valparaiso. My mom has mass energy like a nuclear plant. Her energy never runs out. She can be working 12 hours straight and wake up next day at 7 oclock waiting for the clients. My hero’s hobby is to play soccer. She plays soccer in a soccer team in Valparaiso. She likes to spend her free time going to the soccer field and play with her friends. My mom is one of the greatest female soccer players. She runs super fast around the field without stop for the whole match. Hence, her nick name on the field became ‘The Atom Ant’. Her eyes are light brown like honey, her skinny legs are like Madonna’s. Never old, n :

Management Approach to Trade Unions Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Management Approach to Trade Unions - Essay Example The reverse of this, is what certainly applies to trade unions without a stronghold of labour law or with a lack of support by such law. Distinguishing between two different models of corporate governance is now commonplace in terms of understanding management approaches to trade unions. One is the shareholder, in which the primary goal is maximization of shareholder value and only shareholders are privileged to have a strong formalized links with top management. Another is the stakeholder model in which a variety of firm constituencies (employees, suppliers, and customers) has interests that are balanced against each other in decision-making and enjoy 'voice.'1 How trade unions are viewed by management also varies according to country, alongside the extent of their influence on the organization and its decision-making and policies. With all these contentions, this paper aims to ascertain in which ways and why management approach to trade unions differ across counties, which purports to be answered with reference to two countries, particularly the United States and the Philippines. Trade unions are the principal institutions of workers in modern capitalist societies, and are referred to as collective organizations of workers with diverse interests.2 Since the days of Adam Smith, economists and other social scientists, labour unionists, and business owners have been debating the social effects of trade unionism. Many economists view it as a monopoly in the labour market whose primary impact is the increase of wages of members at the expense of the non-members and the effective management of the organization. There were frequent complaints from managers about inflexible operations and work disruptions of firms due to unions, and some social critics have painted trade unionism as socially unresponsive, elitist, and crime-riddled institutions,3 which must not be held on to by desperate workers. The other side of the contention holds that unions bear beneficial economic and political effects, stressing the significant ways in which collective bargaining agreements can pursue improved productivity and better management. Trade unionists note that unionism has the capacity to increase the retention and development of skills of the workers, improve morale, provide information on the goings-on in the shop floor, and pressure management for better efficiency in its operations.4 Besides increasing wages, trade unions provide workers with protection against unfair working conditions and arbitrary management decisions at the expense of the workers. Consequently, the presence of trade unionism in organizations gives a louder voice to the workers and enables them to pursue their demands on the management with a unified and louder voice. However, the negative view of trade unions has increased dominantly during the past thirty years.5 Several right and left advocates, while notable exceptions are considered, doubt the value and social relevance of America's organized labour movement.6 Economists have been indulged in quantifying the economic effects of collective bargaining, focusing almost exclusively on the monopoly wage impact of unions.7 Management Approach to Trade Unions in the United States Much of the seminal work on the concept of

Ethics in Machiavellis The Prince Essay -- Machiavelli The Prince

Ethics in Machiavelli's The Prince Niccolo Machiavelli (1469-1527) was an Italian statesman and political philosopher. He was employed on diplomatic missions as defence secretary of the Florentine republic, and was tortured when the Medici returned to power in 1512. When he retired from public life he wrote his most famous work, The Prince (1532), which describes the means by which a leader may gain and maintain power. The Prince has had a long and chequered history and the number of controversies that it has generated is indeed surprising. Almost every ideology has tried to appropriate it for itself - as a result everyone from Clement VII to Mussolini has laid claim to it. Yet there were times when it was terribly unpopular. Its author was seen to be in league with the devil and the connection between 'Old Nick' and Niccolo Machiavelli was not seen as merely nominal. The Elizabethans conjured up the image of the 'murdering Machiavel' [1] and both the Protestants and the later Catholics held his book responsible for evil things. Any appraisal of the book therefore involved some ethical queasiness. Modern scholarship may have removed the stigma of devilry from Machiavelli, but it still seems uneasy as to his ethical position. Croce [2] and some of his admirers like Sheldon Wolin [3] and Federic Chabod [4] have pointed out the existence of an ethics-politics dichotomy in Machiavelli. Isaiah Berlin [5] postulates a system of morality outside the Christian ethical schema. Ernst Cassirer [6] calls him a cold technical mind implying that his attitude to politics would not necessarily involve ethics. And Macaulay [7] sees him as a man of his time going by the actual ethical positions of Quattrocento Italy. In the face of s... ...erlin, Isaiah. The Question of Machiavelli. The industry retail industry is big but the specialty retailer is small. $45. 9 billion of total $108. 7 billion women’s clothing purchases in 2009. Major firms are reporting down sales during the past quarters. Economic of Scale Fouth firms dominated the industry, which indicate that large firms have an advantage and economic of scal es are present. To enjoy economic of scales specialty retail stores create use brand extension to appeal to different segments (production) ad brand expansion (marketing) Vertical Integration Some of the bigger fashion companies are vertically integrated with their line of production so as to be able to shorten production cycle and be able to adapt to the current demand as well as customer satisfaction. Integrated manufacturing, distribution and retail together, with every step of the process done in-house and not replying on outsourcing. From designing and marketing, fabric storage to warehouse distribution and retail,Degree of Product Differentiation Unlike department stores that sell many different types of products for many types of customers, specialty retailers focus on one type of product item and offer many varieties of that item. Always looking for new segments which can create a branding problem. The product differentiation is low because the product can be produce by other firms. Companies need to compete in price. These dominant economic traits indicate that the structure of this industry is difficult to earn a positive income because is a small industry segment and is dominated by large firms. What kinds of competitive forces are at work? Threat of new entrants – low * Is easy to enter in the retail industry but hard in specialty retail. Majority of stores are chain stores. Their vertical structure and centralized buying gives chain stores a competitive advantage over independent retailers. If a company has a patent for a product is difficult to enter to the industry. Bargaining power of buyers – moderate * The industry sells directly to customers, consumes are free to shop anywhere but there a few alternatives. This makes the industry more attractive.Bargaining power of suppliers – low * Specialty retail stores are segmented and suppliers can influence price, quality, and terms. Is a small part of a whole industry, if supplies decided that the segment does not represent a significant fraction of its sales they can exert power. Apparel stores are known to have a higher quality standard, if suppliers don’t meet this standard they could get dropped from their line. Threat of substitutes – low * Clothing is common known as the basic need for human life. It is a kind of necessity and is hard to find substitutes to replace the function.Basically, apparel products are no major different in nature, but the main differentiation may come from the brands. So, the treat of substitutes seems not an important factor. Intensity of rivalry – high * There are a lot of brands existing in the market. They try to differentiate themselves in order to find their niche and decrease competition, but nonetheless in every niche there are 3-5 direct competitors of different size, but in some locations there are only 1-2 firms and so these locations are quite attractive to the new entrants.Competition primarily based on the customer image that firm created and quality, price is the second thing. E-commerce also forces competition because it seriously increases availability of the product in any location. Value-Net * Target a celebrity that is known to ware specialty products. Partner with a magazine who target women over 35 but they were luxury clothes. Partner with other high quality products like cars and phones. Is an extreme competitive industry and there are few complements that would provide options to expand the size of the market. What forces are driving change? Luxury fashion spending was up 35 % in 2010, while mainstream fashion gained 8 % overall. +, Great growth of department stores+, 2009 worse holiday season generate a wave of retail closures among many well- known brands. -, 2008 women’s clothes retailer had felt downturn and lost customers and cause shoppers to cut back on purchases. -, Customer had shown a clear preference for select high-end apparel willing to pay a premium on something that delivers luxury+ Spending in valued-oriented stores has been stable- China wages increase were causing inflation in merchandise manufacturing. Over the next few days is going to be rare for specialty apparel retailer to return to its historical level of profitability. – Over all the trends seem to be negative making the industry more comperative. 4. Focused Health Care Planning For Students 2019

Educators and health care professionals alike recognize the importance of health care planning in the school environment. Our public schools are increasingly burdened with the task of attending to the health of its students. With both parents working in the majority of American households, more children with mild illness are being sent off to school. As school district budgets go through regular budget cuts, special programs are being dropped. This means that students with special needs who might have landed in a tutoring program or special education classroom are being integrated into the general school population. These trends have resulted in a significant expansion of the school nurses duties. Today a school nurse may be charged with dispensing medicine and then monitoring reaction to the medication, with monitoring glucose levels for diabetic students, with dispensing medication and treatment for the onset of chronic conditions such as asthma or an allergy attack, and so on. Ninety plus percent of public school nurses report caring for students with seizures, with diabetes and with chronic and severe asthma. .u4f19ceeb49225a8bd8ab90017013cd10 { padding:0px; margin: 0; padding-top:1em!important; padding-bottom:1em!important; width:100%; display: block; font-weight:bold; background-color:#eaeaea; border:0!important; border-left:4px solid #34495E!important; box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -moz-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -o-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -webkit-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); text-decoration:none; } .u4f19ceeb49225a8bd8ab90017013cd10:active, .u4f19ceeb49225a8bd8ab90017013cd10:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; text-decoration:none; } .u4f19ceeb49225a8bd8ab90017013cd10 { transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; } .u4f19ceeb49225a8bd8ab90017013cd10 .ctaText { font-weight:bold; color:inherit; text-decoration:none; font-size: 16px; } .u4f19ceeb49225a8bd8ab90017013cd10 .post Title { color:#000000; text-decoration: underline!important; font-size: 16px; } .u4f19ceeb49225a8bd8ab90017013cd10:hover .postTitle { text-decoration: underline!important; } READ Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Learn What it Takes to Be a Chief Financial Officer (CFO)It has become a generally accepted premise that for students with special needs or with chronic health problems, it is good policy for the school nurse and/or school staff to develop an individual health plan for each of them. The process should begin with an in-depth interview with the student and parents or caregivers. The schools nursing office needs to assemble as comprehensive a health record as possible on the student who may experience ongoing problems in school. This interview may be conducted with the student as active participant and the result needs to be a careful review of the childs medical history and what early symptoms may be for the onset of medical difficulty. The next step in the individualized health care plan is inclusion of treatment recommendations for the most common occurrences. The most common chronic medical emergency in school is some sort of respiratory problem. School staff should know if there has been medication prescribed for such incidents and, if so, have some provided to them by the parent. This portion of the plan should also include a discussion of the early warning signs that might be given off by the student and that information should be distributed to the appropriate teachers and school staff. .u6ec75e1f56cd70cdb9148a98019c621a { padding:0px; margin: 0; padding-top:1em!important; padding-bottom:1em!important; width:100%; display: block; font-weight:bold; background-color:#eaeaea; border:0!important; border-left:4px solid #34495E!important; box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -moz-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -o-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -webkit-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); text-decoration:none; } .u6ec75e1f56cd70cdb9148a98019c621a:active, .u6ec75e1f56cd70cdb9148a98019c621a:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; text-decoration:none; } .u6ec75e1f56cd70cdb9148a98019c621a { transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; } .u6ec75e1f56cd70cdb9148a98019c621a .ctaText { font-weight:bold; color:inherit; text-decoration:none; font-size: 16px; } .u6ec75e1f56cd70cdb9148a98019c621a .post Title { color:#000000; text-decoration: underline!important; font-size: 16px; } .u6ec75e1f56cd70cdb9148a98019c621a:hover .postTitle { text-decoration: underline!important; } READ An Executive MBA Is The Leadership DegreeIndividualized school health plans should include contact numbers for the childs regular physician along with a list of any medications that the child is currently using or has been prescribed in the past.
